The most important bus connections

To get to Koblenz University by bus from Koblenz city centre or the train station, it is best to use lines 4/14 or 3/13. Line 5 can also be used on weekends, but it takes a little longer.

The best way to get to the RheinMoselCampus of Koblenz University from the city centre is to take line 2/12 or the express buses 620 or 615. The best way to reach the RheinAhrCampus in Remagen from the train station in Remagen is to take lines 851, 852 or 828.

Insider tip: Use the easy-to-use VRM app to find out about journey times. Here you can not only find out reliable travel times, but also delays!

Both the Catholic and Protestant student communities help many students to find their first connection. Both organise projects, church services and events and offer a place of refuge. You will always find a sympathetic ear here!

International Office Buddy Programme

The Buddy Programme helps international guest and full-time students find their way around the university. Every "international" is assigned a "buddy" who helps them make contacts, answers their questions and is their first point of contact. This creates a lively intercultural exchange and you quickly get to know many new people from different cultures!

Student participation

Every student has the right to participate in decisions made by the university or college. There are a number of student representatives in which you can get involved:

StuPa - Student Parliament

Once a year, all students have the opportunity to elect the student parliament. As a legislative body, it decides on the basic rules of the game, decides on the budget (every student pays a certain contribution per semester) and elects the AStA.

Asta - General Student Committee

The General Student Committee is the executive body of the student body. It is made up of departments with various tasks, the orientation of which is determined by the StuPa. The members of the AStA work on a voluntary basis and are responsible for many activities and events on campus.

In addition to fun and information events, the AStA is in close contact with the student councils and the university administration. In this way, work is constantly being done to improve the conditions of study.

Student council

The students of a degree programme or subject form a so-called department. They elect a departmental student council (FSV), which represents the interests of their department to the lecturers and the AStA. The members of the FSV also work on a voluntary basis.

How can I make further contacts?

[contentboxes]

It's often not easy to find time to find work and manage your finances independently while studying. To help you get started, here is a small overview and other sources where you can find information on the topic.

Quick overview:

Jobs

There are several ways to work and earn a living while studying. Here you will find some general information as well as job exchanges that will help you find a job.

Information about jobs

Regardless of whether you have a mini-job, a working student job or any other kind of employment, you may not work more than 20 hours per week during the semester, so that students can devote themselves mainly to their studies. This restriction does not apply during the semester break, so it does not apply to semester break jobs.
If you receive BAföG, make sure that you do not exceed the maximum monthly amount of 556 €!
Check with the employment agency if you want to find out more details.

Job fairs of the college and university

Are you looking for a job? Then take a look at these job boards:

Jobteaser - in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences, Jobteaser offers a great platform for students to find the right job.

Stellenwerk - in cooperation with the University of Koblenz, you can find the right job on Stellenwerk!

Finances

It is often difficult to finance your life as a student. The loans and scholarships listed below are designed to help you with this.
We have also listed other tips and tricks to help you get your finances under control.

BAföG

BAföG, actually the abbreviation for "Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz" (Federal Training Assistance Act), is the state financing of studies in Germany.

Half of it consists of an interest-free loan and the other half of a grant - in other words, money is given to you for free. You have to repay a maximum of 10,010 euros of your loan at the end of your studies, or even less: depending on the amount, there are additional discounts for early repayment.

You can find out whether you are eligible for BAföG, and if so, how much, by using the BAföG calculator provided by the Studierendenwerk Göttingen or a detailed Bafög calculator.

You can find detailed information here:

www.bafög.de
www.studentenwerke.de

Scholarships

Scholarships are a way of financing your studies that often goes unused. Of course, you have to apply first. This can be time-consuming and success is not guaranteed. However, a scholarship has many advantages: You don't have to pay it back, it looks good on your CV, it often includes a "non-material" support programme and you get to know interesting people through the foundation. You can find more information on scholarships under "Scholarships".

Student loans

Education loan

With the education loan, the Federal Government supports students in advanced phases of their education with a simple, low-interest loan. Funding is also available for second and subsequent courses of study as well as training-related internships in Germany and abroad. The loan is granted regardless of the assets and income of the applicant and his/her parents or partner. In addition, the education loan can be combined with other financing offers such as BAföG.

More information on the education loan.

Broadcasting fee

Every household in Germany must pay the so-called broadcasting fee. This is used to finance the public broadcasters in Germany.
Shortly after moving into a new flat, it is therefore important to change your address as soon as possible. You will then automatically receive a letter from the contribution service to which you must register.

Tips:

  • The fee must be paid by household. If you live in a shared flat, you can split the fee.
  • Register as soon as possible, otherwise the additional payments will quickly become very high!
  • If you receive BAföG, you can be exempted from the broadcasting fee! Simply send an application plus BAföG certificate to the relevant office!
  • Other conditions can also exempt you from the broadcasting fee, just have a look here!

You can find all further information at www.rundfunkbeitrag.de

Tax tips for students

How do you file a tax return? How do you save money? And is it even worth it? You can find out all about this at steuerstudis.de.

"Wohnen für Hilfe" (Housing for help)

With the “Wohnen für Hilfe” (Housing for help) project, we are promoting a special form of shared living in cooperation with the Caritasverband Koblenz e. V. (Caritas Association Koblenz): housing partnerships that go beyond the usual shared flat life.

The idea behind "Wohnen für Hilfe" is very simple: people who have free living space in their flat or house offer students a roof over their heads - rent-free! In return, the students support and help with smaller everyday tasks. The students pay the additional costs themselves.

The rule of thumb is: one hour of help per month per square metre of living space.

Care services are excluded, but otherwise anything the two flatmates agree on is possible: Shopping, housework and gardening, socialising, housekeeping and much more.

All information about "Wohnen für Hilfe", the application form and contact details can be found on the website of Caritasverband Koblenz e. V. You can find current housing offers from "Wohnen für Hilfe" in our housing exchange!
