Questions & Answers
Who can take part in Wohnen für Hilfe or is eligible for a housing partnership?
The project is aimed at anyone who has a spare room or flat available and may need support in everyday life, as well as students at Koblenz University of Applied Sciences or the University of Koblenz who are looking for accommodation.
Where do I have to register to take part?
You can contact the Wohnen für Hilfe team on 0261 9528-981 or by e-mail at
As a first step, you can get non-binding advice on whether "Wohnen für Hilfe" is the right form of housing for you or fill out the application form directly and submit it by e-mail!
How long does it take to find a suitable housing partner?
Unfortunately, there is no general answer to this question, as it depends heavily on supply and demand as well as individual, personal factors. There are usually more interested students than available accommodation. Students can increase their chances if they are prepared to travel some distance to the university in question.
I would like to start a housing partnership as soon as possible - how does that work?
Not all people are compatible. Mutual sympathy is very important in flat-sharing partnerships. You should therefore not make a hurried decision after a first meeting. Only enter into a housing partnership if you have the impression that the housing partnership can work on an interpersonal level. It is also important that your ideas and wishes match. A trial flat often helps to clarify these points.
What can I do if problems or conflicts arise in a housing partnership?
The most important thing is that you discuss your ideas and wishes as concretely as possible before you start a flat-sharing partnership. This way, you can minimise the likelihood of problems or conflicts arising. If such a situation does arise, it helps to seek a personal discussion at an early stage. If necessary, the Wohnen für Hilfe team can provide support here.
Does the assistance cover the entire rent?
In principle, yes, unless the contracting parties agree otherwise. It is also possible to pay part of the rent and provide part of the help. The rule of thumb is: one hour of help per month per square metre of living space. The utility costs are calculated independently of this and must be paid.
How much help is required for a room?
The rule of thumb is: one hour of help per month per square metre of living space. Ultimately, however, the two contracting parties themselves decide how much help should be provided.
Who are the contracting parties?
The accommodation transfer agreement is concluded between the accommodation provider and the (future) accommodation partner. They are the sole contracting parties. The Studierendenwerk Koblenz provides support in arranging the housing partnership and also offers advice beyond this, but is not part of the legal relationship existing within a housing partnership.
I am sceptical whether living for help works. Are there already successful housing partnerships?
The ‘’Wohnen für Hilfe‘’ project is available in many cities in Germany and has also operated in Koblenz and Remagen since 2017. Since then, we have arranged and supported well over 100 successful housing partnerships. Find out more here.
